Apple Iphone 3Gs

Apple recently announced their 3rd generation Iphone. The Iphone 3G S. not too sure what the S stands for but from what apple has been showing us it could very well mean ‘SPEEDY’ or ‘SUPER’ or something like that.

Apple say that the new Iphone 3Gs is up to twice as fast as the normal Iphone 3G. The Specs for it certainly seem to show a bump in speed and capability. Features like a faster processor, more ram, better graphics and a HSDPA connection are definitely upgrades. The Iphone 3Gs comes in 2 flavours, Black and White with 16Gb or 32 Gb hard drives.

Apple has also decided to include long awaited upgrades like a better camera and video recording capabilites. A 3-Megapixel camera with autofocus, macro mode and auto-white balance replaces the old 2-megapixel camera. Voice Recording and Voice Control capabilities have also been included with the IPhone 3Gs. This works well the new incline remote with volume and playback control that is included with the new IPhone 3Gs.

Pricing for the IPhone 3Gs is $199 for the 16GB version and $299 for the 32GB version. Existing customers will be asked to pay $399 /$499 for the 16Gb/32Gb.

The IPhone 3gs will be released in-stores June 19th.

DELL SX2210

Dell recently announced a new monitor to match their line of Studio Laptops and Desktops which are supposed to be the cool look of Dell. The Dell SX2210 is a Full HD 1080p capable monitor. Meaning it had 1920 by 1080 pixels screen resolution, which is quite impressive for a 21.5 inch monitor.

I must say it is a very very pretty monitor and it certainly matches Dell’s line of Studio laptops. It has the specs to match as well:-

21.5 inch screen
1920×1080 @ 60hz resolution
50000:1 Contrast Ratio
2ms Response Time
Analog, DVI-D and HDMI connectivity
4 USB Ports
Built-In 2.0 Megapixel Camera

Now, one of the great selling points is the built in camera. The only other monitor that has this function is the Apple Cinema Displays which are very expensive. The rest of the specs can be found on most new monitors but for the price of $279 dollars, it is one of the best priced monitors compared to Samsung and other big branded monitors I’ve seen.

I wasnt sure what I was going to blog about.. so i decided why not write about my computer set up. May as well let the geek in me show once in a while. Ok maybe I show it quite often but hey, i do what I want.

As you can see, I have a Dual Sreen set-up on my rather small desk. One of the screens isnt really mine. i belong to my GF but i’m borrowing it for a few weeks because she got herself a shiny new Macbook.

Anyway, I shall list what I have on my desk:-

Two 20″ inch monitors. One made by Dell and the other made by Samsung.

Logitech MX100 mouse with Func Industries Surface Mousepad
Dell Media Keyboard

Mac Mini, 1.73 Core Duo with 250GB hdd.

HP Photosmart C3180 printer (technically beside my desk)

Didnt actually realize that I have that many things on my desk. To be honest is much more messier than what it looks like in the picture. Usually there are papers and cups and other stuff on it. Its just been cleaned up for the purpose of these pictures

The next picture is what my CPU looks like.

Its a Antec 300 gaming case. With the following specifications:-

2.4Ghz Core 2 Quad Q6600
Asus PQ5 Pro
4GB OCZ DDR2 800 RAM
Powercolor Radeon HD 4850 PCS+ 1GB DDR3 Ram
4 Sata Hard Disc Drives (Two 320GB, one 200GB and one 80GB)
16x DVD-RW Drive

As you may have noticed, I have a Mac Mini and a PC. I use them both by connecting them up to the Belkin KVM so I can use 2 different OS when I want to. My reason for this is because I want to learn how to code using a Mac but in actual fact I did it because it looks cool

Now this probably looks like I’m boasting, but honestly I’m not. I’m just blogging. Isn’t that what blogging is all about? Telling people things about yourself?

My iPhone

I’ve had my iphone since it was first inteoduced in the Uk. I then change to the 3g version. Unfortunately I only have the 8GB version. But it seems to be sufficient for now. Although I do want to get a bigger one when I can.

I am really excited about OS 3.0 that I coming out for the iPhone. There is a developer beta available but since I am not a developer I don’t have one.

The feature I am most looking forward to is MMS and the array of new APIs that will give way to new apps. Cut, copy and paste is also a feature that has finally been introduced for the iPhone. Funnily enough it’s a feature that all other platforms have. Maybe not all but most have a similar feature. What has taken apple so long to implement the most of basic of features I to their flagship phone??

Either way I am pleased that the iPhone is getting new software upgrades. Now where are the hardware upgrades? I’d predict that they will launch a bunch of iPhones with higher specs. I’d personaly like to see:-

- Bigger disc space as standard. 16GB minimum and max 32GB. Maybe more.

- Longer lasting battery life. I won’t mind The phone being slightly thicker if I could have it last more than 3 days of usage.

- Better Camera. The current one is good but I’d like one that can rival a decent camera phone like one of the Sony cybershot series.

- Less lag. Basically faster loading speeds for all apps and especially the keyboard.

- A web browser that doesn’t crash all the time. Nuff said.

There are more but I’ll list them out in another post.

According to Microsoft, over 20 Million copies of Windows Vista have been sold. This is they say better than the sales of Windows XP by 3 million in the first month. But some sites state that this wrong or does not add up. I tend to agree. I think the main problem is the price. I know everyone thinks that Vista is overpriced but obviously MS doesn’t. I guess you could say the development costs were very expensive hence the high price tag. For example, the high end version, Windows Vista Ultimate costs about 300pds.(No pound sign, sorry) I found a website that is selling a brand new PC for 229.99 here although bundled with the basic version. I think that is incredible and ridiculous. The ultimate version is 70pds more than a PC??!?!?!

I think Microsoft should lover the prices and sell more copies rather than sell less at a higher price. I think in the long run they would make more money and gain make sure they keep their hold on the market cause Apple is catching up. But thats another post.
